The objective vulgarity of this combination is somewhat tempered by its  imaginative beauty.  The breathless sound from the tortoise comprises melodic fragments that weave in and out of Liszt's rippling swells. Many of the tortoise's entrances emerge several seconds after one might be expecting, creating an asymmetric tension and release throughout.

The audience is rewarded around 35 seconds in when Lang Lang looks directly into the camera making a face that is seemingly identical to the male tortoise's face.
