“The singing instrument provides the reason for the piano's harmony to change”

The sustained instrument in this diptych is the vocal line from Smashmouth’s Allstar, the eternal meme inseparable from 2001’s Shrek. At quarter speed, each interval yearns for the next, weaving a liquid line, lusting for each of Schubert’s succeeding harmonies. Khatia’s woeful facial expressions lend a comical amount of legitimacy to the Smashmouth sound creating a paradoxical marriage between profound beauty and irreverent meme.
