IMPROVISATIONS IN A MAJOR
This winter, my COVID-19 claimed my grandfather’s life. It was devastating to my family and I had difficulty processing all of the rushing thoughts and feelings. The following day I was doing my best to focus on some scales and I put the drone on A440 drone to do some A major. But I found myself staring out the window thinking about how he would joke that he wanted to work for the parks department count trees for a living. In my inability to focus, I kept catching myself getting lost in improvisations over the unyielding A440 drone. I hit record on a voice memo to capture this tonal free-association that reflected what I was seeing, thinking, and feeling that morning.
I fashioned it into little piece that brought me a little peace.
